Colby Baseball / Softball Complex

A state-of-the-art softball and baseball complex opened in 2015-16 making Colby the first college in NESCAC to feature synthetic turf fields for both sports.

The new artificial turf baseball field—still named for legendary major league pitcher Colby Jack Coombs, Class of 1906—replicates the old baseball field in the same physical space. The new softball facility moved to the same side of Mayflower Hill Drive as the baseball diamond, and the two fields share related facilities.

The complex features full lighting for night practices and games on both fields, and there is a covered pavilion with hitting tunnels for batting practice. The complex also features on-grade dugouts, LED scoreboards, elevated bleachers behind the home plates, and public restrooms.

The complex is accessible to Colby’s club and intramural sports programs, and the baseball field is large enough to fit a three-quarter-size soccer field in the outfield. The fields may be scheduled for use by local programs and regional tournaments, providing new opportunities for Colby to support local athletes.

A harbinger of other new athletic facilities on the drawing board, the complex allows Colby to enroll the highest achieving students and provides the best softball and baseball experiences in the NESCAC for players, parents, and fans.
